Hi, I’m Kei Sano, MD, PhD — an ophthalmologist, AI researcher, and glaucoma specialist based in Tokyo, Japan.

On this channel, I share ideas and insights from my work at the intersection of retinal imaging, medical AI, epidemiology, and preventive medicine.
Sometimes it’s about serious research. Sometimes it’s about how those ideas connect to real clinical questions. Always with curiosity.

Outside the lab and clinic, I’m deeply into music — I played violin in an orchestra during my school years, guitar in a band at university, and I’m currently learning piano.
I also enjoy golf, snowboarding, mixed martial arts, board games, and strategy games like Go and Shogi (Go 3-dan, Shogi 1-dan).
One day, after a bit more training, I’d love to play a serious game of Go with Demis Hassabis.
